Minutes March 2010
Mary Gilmore gave an excellent talk about the University group U3A which stands for University of the Third Age.
This is a group that holds educational and social activities for people who are over 50 years of age and no longer in full time employment.
There are many of these groups set up by universities all over the country and each one is independent of the others. The Cambridge group already has over 1900 members who take part in hundreds of activities which vary from bell ringing to learning about the history of local areas to coach outings to places of interest or shows.
Activities are run by volunteers who have an interest that they would like to pass on to others. These activities are usually scheduled between the months of October and May and a yearly subscription covers the cost although extra payments are required to cover costs of coach trips.
The lunch date for 16th March was confirmed for the Jade Fountain Chinese Restaurant in Sawston.
The meeting on 6th April at Sawston Free Church was cancelled as this falls in the Easter break.
Tuesday 20th April lunch will go ahead. Venue to be decided.
The book sale on the 20th and 21st of March. Set up will hopefully be at 9.00am. Four members volunteered to help. Any other help would be appreciated, particularly for the Sunday. Many books have been donated, paper backs as well as hard back and most in excellent condition.
